AZ Gov by day and Crypt Keeper by night sets U.S. back 50 Years
World meet Arizona, where it’s illegal to learn about one's culture and linguistic heritage because of conservative self-serving fascist a-holes who fear the inevitable. The majority becoming the minority.
Today Jan Brewer, Latino immigrant bully extraordinaire, and also Arizona’s interim Governor who is seeking re-election this year, Signed a bill banning ethnic studies in Arizona schools. The bill is written to ban all ethnic studies but unfortunately its underlying motives are more obvious than Sarah Palin’s "hand" written talking points.
Follow up:
This bill conveniently comes in an election year and less than 3 weeks after a huge civil liberties violating immigration bill which takes effect in June. As with the immigration bill giving police the right to racially profile at will, this bill is sure to spawn mass protests in Arizona and other US states with large Latino populations. Jan Brewer has obviously taken such controversial actions for her own political re-election by playing off of the fears of Arizona’s 85% white population. The bills proponents claim such ethnic programs teach Latino students that they are oppressed by white people and are therefore divisive. Not unlike Texas re-writing its history school books, similarly another knee jerk reaction by conservative White people who feel like they are losing the country to illegal immigrants and most of all, a black president. God forbid, students of all ethnic and racial backgrounds learn the truth of the crimes and atrocities committed by White people in its extensive history of doing so.Do we not know where we are going by knowing where we came from? Or is it better to sweep the little shop of horrors under the rug and pretend like it never happened? I'll be the first one to say that ignorance IS bliss, but a country who proudly claims the principle of equality will never truly be reached if any one person is denied to make that decision for themselves.
During the Nazi era in Germany the majority also bullied a minority called the Jews. They made laws requiring to have "papers" showing their legal status and restricting what information (such as books, classes, etc) could be accessed, especially any that could encourage dissent of the governing regime. This is why I believe the new Arizona state motto license plate should be changed to... "Arizona, we put the AZ in Nazi!"
