Rupert Murdoch bullies Amazon on $9.99 e-books
"I could crush him like an ant. But it would be too easy. No, revenge is a dish best served cold. I'll bide my time until ... Oh, what the hell. I'll just crush him like an ant." - Montgomery Burns
$9.99 e-books will soon be a thing of the past. Rupert Murdoch, CEO of News Corp, has imposed his will on the largest online retailer, Amazon.com. Ol' Rupert feels that money is being lost by selling electronic books so cheaply at $9.99. Expect all e-books to now cost $14.99 and up. Apparently he feels that the low price devalues books and it hurts all the retailers of the hard cover books. Expect this to stall sales on e-readers like the new iPad and Amazon Kindle as it gives even more reason to skip the new costly gadget. Also, don't be surprised if e-book piracy increases as more readers get discouraged by the price hike. I dunno Rupert, you may be killing the market before it even gets going.
